Concrete is everywhere on a commercial or industrial property: warehouse floors, loading docks, parkade decks, foundation walls, precast panels and tilt-up facades. Sooner or later most of it needs stripping, cleaning or roughening before a new coating goes on, and sandblasting is the fastest way to do it. Here is what actually goes into a concrete sandblasting job, where it shines, where it does not, and how the pricing works.
What concrete sandblasting is used for
Coating and paint removal. Old epoxy, urethane, paint and sealers on warehouse and shop floors come off cleanly, back to bare concrete, ready for a fresh system.
Surface profiling before new coatings. A smooth, sealed slab will not hold a new coating. Blasting opens a texture (an industry-standard concrete surface profile) so epoxy, polyaspartic or waterproofing actually bonds instead of peeling in a season.
Laitance and curing-compound removal. Fresh concrete leaves a weak, dusty top layer and curing residue that keeps coatings from sticking. A light blast takes it off without eating into the sound slab beneath.
Graffiti and stain removal. Spray paint, tire marks and general grime on block, precast and poured walls come back to a uniform surface rather than a ghosted patch.
Foundation and structural prep. Foundation walls and structural concrete cleaned to a paintable, coatable profile on site, with no need to move anything.
Why concrete blasting is almost always done dustless
Dry-blasting concrete is a dust problem waiting to happen. Concrete contains crystalline silica, and grinding it to powder at high pressure throws a fine cloud that is a genuine health hazard and drifts onto everything nearby: parked cars, HVAC intakes, neighbouring units and the street. On most GTA sites that is a stopped job and a complaint to the city. That is why nearly all of our concrete work uses the dustless (wet abrasive) process, which mixes water with the media and suppresses up to 95% of airborne dust. Occupied buildings stay open, cleanup stays contained, and the surface comes out clean and ready to coat. If moisture is a concern for a sensitive area, dry ice blasting is the alternative we reach for.
Matching pressure and media to the slab
The single biggest mistake with concrete is treating every slab the same. A thick, sound industrial floor tolerates aggressive blasting. A thin topping slab, an old parkade deck or a decorative surface does not, and too much pressure will gouge it or expose aggregate you did not want exposed. The right job starts with the question of what the concrete is and what has to come off, then the pressure and media are dialled in to match, and we run a small test patch first so you can see the result before we commit to the whole area. If a surface is too far gone to blast safely, we will say so and point you to a better route.
What we blast most often across the GTA
Warehouse and shop floors. Coating removal and profiling ahead of new epoxy or polyaspartic systems, often scheduled around production so the space is only down briefly.
Parkades and loading docks. Stripping worn traffic coatings and prepping decks for waterproofing, with full containment on active structures.
Precast and tilt-up panels. Cleaning and profiling exterior concrete panels on commercial and industrial buildings, blasted in place off our mobile rigs.
Foundation walls. Prepping poured and block foundations for damp-proofing or coatings, inside and out.

What concrete sandblasting costs
Pricing comes down to surface area, what is being removed, access and containment, not a flat per-square-foot rate. Heavy multi-layer coatings, working at height, tight access and active sites add time, while open floors and simple prep go fast.
