What is Dustless Sandblasting?
Sandblasting, also known as abrasive blasting, is a highly effective surface preparation technique. It involves propelling a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface contaminants. It is the industry standard for removing old paint, rust, scale, dirt, and graffiti, leaving behind a perfectly clean, profiled substrate that is ready for new coatings, repairs, or restorations.
We specialize in dustless sandblasting, an advanced variation that mixes water (and often a rust inhibitor) directly with the abrasive blast media. This significantly suppresses the airborne dust plume typically associated with traditional dry blasting, making it a safer and more environmentally friendly option. It remains the industry standard for removing old paint, rust, scale, dirt, and graffiti, leaving behind a perfectly clean, profiled substrate that is ready for new coatings, repairs, or restorations.
What We offer
Dustless Sandblasting Services & Applications
Our sandblasting services are versatile and highly effective across a wide range of industries and materials.
Heavy Machinery
Stripping rust and old coatings to extend the lifespan of your heavy civil and construction fleets.
Cranes
Safe and thorough structural cleaning and paint preparation for tower and mobile cranes.
Pools
Removing old plaster, paint, or epoxy to prep concrete or fiberglass pools for resurfacing.
Holding Tanks
Interior and exterior surface profiling for water, chemical, and agricultural storage tanks to ensure new protective coatings adhere properly.
Industrial Equipment
Degreasing, de-rusting, and restoring manufacturing machinery to optimal condition.
Concrete Profile Preparation
Exposing the aggregate or roughening concrete surfaces to ensure the proper bonding of overlays, epoxies, or sealants.
Graffiti Removal
Quickly and safely erasing vandalism from brick, concrete, stone, and metal without damaging the underlying substrate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes dustless sandblasting different from traditional sandblasting?
Traditional sandblasting is a dry process that can create a massive, highly visible cloud of toxic dust and debris. Dustless sandblasting solves this problem by mixing water directly with the abrasive media inside the blast tank. This water encapsulates the blast media and the pulverized coating being removed, weighing it down and preventing it from becoming airborne. It suppresses the dust plume by up to 92%, making it significantly safer for the operator, the environment, and surrounding personnel.
Will the water used in the dustless process cause my metal surfaces to rust?
No, it will not. We understand that introducing water to bare metal sounds like a recipe for instant flash rusting. To prevent this, we add a specialized, environmentally friendly rust inhibitor directly into the water and abrasive mixture. This inhibitor effectively cleans the metal and leaves a protective barrier that prevents flash rusting for up to 72 hours, giving you ample time to apply your primer or new coating.
Is dustless sandblasting safe to perform outdoors or in populated areas?
Yes. Because the dust plume is drastically reduced, dustless sandblasting is the ideal solution for outdoor, on-site, and urban environments. It eliminates the need for massive, expensive containment structures that dry blasting requires. While a safe perimeter is always necessary, the lack of a sprawling dust cloud means we can work on assets like public infrastructure or commercial buildings without heavily disrupting nearby operations or neighbours.
What types of surfaces and contaminants can dustless sandblasting handle?
Dustless sandblasting is incredibly versatile. We can adjust the pressure and the type of abrasive media to suit the substrate. It is powerful enough to strip heavy industrial coatings, rust, and scale from structural steel and heavy machinery, yet controllable enough to safely remove graffiti from brick or strip old paint and epoxy from concrete and fiberglass pools without destroying the underlying material.
Does dustless sandblasting leave a mess to clean up?
While it is "dustless" in the sense that it eliminates the airborne dust cloud, it is not "mess-free." The process does create wet, heavy runoff consisting of water, the spent abrasive media (such as crushed glass), and the removed contaminant (like old paint or rust). However, because this wet debris falls directly to the ground rather than blowing away in the wind, it is highly localized. We use protective tarps and containment berms to capture this runoff, making the final cleanup process straightforward and fully compliant with environmental regulations.
